It feels like I'm crunching my length shorter in order to make my girth expand. Hopefully these will make you gain girth faster than you lose length.

I had to modify and if its ok with DLD I'd like to suggest an alternative way to do them
I have very strong forearms, I do lots of weight lifting and can do 400lb deadlifts with no grips or anything, but I for the life of me cannot hold a grip longer than 30 secs doing these SSJs
So what did I do? Instead of grabbing it like your going to do a ULI, try grabbing it like ur doing a basic Jelq, the fact that my hands are upright gives me alot more added strength to not only hold this grip but to force my hand up against my hand compressing downward
and they work like this, this is the best Idea I can give u
say you have an empty can of soda right and its standing up on the pavement
now u go over and stomp on it
the can cannot go anywhere up and down because its under compression, so where can the can go? It expands in diameter
youll notice that the can is now wider and girthier (not sure thats a word)
This is exaclty what ur doing with your penis when u work it with SSJs the only difference is that u are not going to be permananently shorting your penis because its elastic, but you will be expand your thickness cause thats how your stretching it with this exercise
