You don't need tools but if you were to get one I reccomend the Lengthmaster its amazing for manual stretches and its a formidable hanger. Specially since it seems that your focus is length.
That being said after a year of manual stretching you shouldve seen some gains so you must be doing something wrong, and as BSA said 10 mins is just not enough to see any results unless you are doing high intensity hanging and even then it might be too little and that is not recommended for beginners.
