I was going to mention using some sort of rubber band to duplicate the need for an increase in tensio towards the top portion of the contraction but you beat me to it :)

ANY device can be duplicated. The question is, do you want to spend the time doing it yourself or do you want to spend some money and get the convenience of a ready made device.
 
Thank's for the input Big Al. In your opinion, is it advantageous to perform weighted progressive resistance training compared to regular isometric PC training?
 
I would say so. It's best to combine the different methods. Kegels have one advantage in that you can do them anyplace, while "towel raises" allow you to work through a range of motion with the resistance of your choice. Because of this, I believe towel raises will give you better results. The BEST method for developing actual control has to be "Stop and Starts" (or edging).
 
It strengthens the PC muscles. Save your money and put a hand towel over your dick instead.
