Diet is the most important part of weight loss yet so many people can't grasp that concept. You don't have to do any exercise, just eat less calories than you burn in a day and you'll lose weight. Exercise is always good though because it can help burn a few hundred calories more.
There's soooooo many diets out there to choose from that you'll eventually find one that suits you and your budget (some of them can get expensive). The easiest is low carbs high protein and high good fats. Protein shakes, ANPB, chicken (thighs and drumsticks or just buying whole legs is cheap), vegetables/salads (use olive oil and red wine vinegar instead of salad dressing to get some unsaturated fats in there), tuna and salmon.... all good stuff and won't break the bank.
If you are doing more exercise and trying to build some muscle protein shakes after exercise are good. I used to enjoy vanilla shakes with ground up oatmeal in them. It tasted like I was drinking a granola bar. Some people will blend in a few TBSP of ANPB in there as well and you've got protein, carbs, and fats all in 1.
Sorry for going on and on. I used to be really big into this stuff. It would be nice if I could find the time to start working out and bulking up again
