You would still gain by taking the baby steps but over a longer period of time vs a shorter time frame with the hardcore routines. Again, I'm new so I'm still learning myself.
As far as personal experience, when I started doing pe not too long ago, I went the basic BM pump in the shower routine. I saw the temp gains and they came and gone. I then upgraded to the vacuvin mod and that worked great but I ended up injuring myself for whatever reason. After a break, I went to the very deep end and used that crazy vacuum pump I have and I personally have seen my gains last longer, even after a week of not pumping.
Many guys make there best gains in the beginning using the fundamental exercises that build a good foundation. When new guys go too hard too fast in many cases they will injure themselves and prevent gains due to unnecessary breaks. Missing out on the basics can mean missing out on the great newbie gains. I think all men should be progressive in their training and not miss the basics that can be very gain worthy.
