My genre lately is "near future sci fi". In other words, science fiction that uses terminology, technology, developing sciences that are either in development, or currently in use. It makes the stories more believable for me. Being well read in general regardless of genre is good for anyone realistically.
Some I've read the last several months:
Nexus (Book One) Crux (Book Two) Apex (Book Three) all by Author Ramez Naam
Entangled by Graham Hancock
Amped (Book One) Wired (Book Two) by Douglas Richards
Quantum Lens and Minds' Eye by Douglas Richards
The Transhumanist Wager by Zoltan Istvan
Upload by Mark Mcclelland
I also like a couple books by Ray Kurzweil. If you call yourself a science enthusiast and don't know who this man is, you need to do some homework. One of if not the most brilliant man alive today. A noted futurist, who has accurately predicted the track of Moore's Law, and developed many technologies we take for granted today. Also currently on the board at Google.
How To Create a Mind by Ray Kurzweil
The Singularity Is Near by Ray Kurzweil
I also enjoy books that delve into psychology, entheogens and the combination and exploration of the two.
DMT The Spirit Molecule by Rick Strassman M.D.
The Psychedelic Future of the Mind by Thomas Roberts Ph D.
Oh, also an Anne Rice fan! She's released some new books semi recently:
The Wolf Gift by Anne Rice
The Wolves of Midwinter (Book Two of Three) by Anne Rice
Prince Lestat (Yep, new vampire chronicles coming back around!) by Anne Rice
I get everything through my Kindle app. I love that I can take my books with me anywhere and they're all backed up online in my Amazon account. PLUS, Kindle books cost a lot less.
